This was a crazy weekend to say the least. My roommate
Ladas, me, and our friend Bobby decided to send it to sugarloaf for the night
after a great day of riding at loon. We ended up leaving loon around 6pm, we
had no place to stay, we would figure something out when we got to the
mountain. The main focus on our minds was being at the mountain bright and
early the next morning to shred. About an hour into the ride we already had no
service. Naturally Ladas and me were making jokes telling bobby he better not
crash, after all we were out in the boonies with no service. About 2 and half
hours into the trip the GPS told us to take a right onto Berlin road. We could
see that the GPS was just taking us in a circle that connected back to the road
that we were on but we had nothing to loose. Maybe this really was the way to
get to Sugarloaf. When we got on this road we could see that it was a dirt
road, there was a thin layer of snow covering it and you could tell by the
banks on the side that it had been recently plowed. We keep driving for about a
mile, all of us intrigued about where it would take us, the further we went,
the darker it got and the more the snow covered the road. As we came up to a
fork the GPS told up “please take a right on Berlin road” what the hell we are
already on Berlin road but we took the turn anyways. The next thing that we saw
was a sign on the ground that said “road narrows one lane road”. It all
happened so quickly, we came up to this narrow road and before we could even
make a decision of weather we could turn back Bobby was already on the road. We
were just going to keep on keeping on until we arrived at Sugarloaf. This
narrow road turned out to not be a road at all, it was a snowmobile trail and
there was no turning back. A: because the road was too narrow with ditches on
each side. B: because we were in 2 feet of snow and we were afraid that if we
stopped we would get stuck. As we kept going we could hear the snow rubbing up against
the undercarriage of the Subaru. We were swerving back and fourth barley
avoiding the ditches on either side of us. The next thing we know we are at the
top of a huge hill, it felt like a slow motion roller coaster that was of the
tracks and could crash at any second. We finally made it down the hill, but had
no time to feel any relief. In front of us we faced a hill of equal size and to
no ones surprise the car stopped. We sat in the car as bobby tried spinning the
tiers but it was not moving. The first thing I did was told Ladas to call 911,
we had no other options at this point. Unfortunately we forgot that you couldn’t
call 911 when you have no cell phone service. Bobby decided it was worth a try
to dig us out, we couldn’t split up because there were only 3 of us. I cracked
open a red bull, put on my winter jacket, got the board from the roof rack and
started to dig. After about an hour of digging we decided to try to turn it
around. I was directing in the Back and Ladas was at the front. We managed to
pull a 14-point turn and turned the car around. Now we had to get the car all
the way back up the hill. Bobby had to stay in the tracks we made on the way
down. We could see how many close calls we had almost going off the road on the
way there. As we were making it up this hill I realized we had a shot to get
out of this mess. About ¾ way up the hill a deer about the size of our car
bolted in front of us across the trail. We didn’t hit it and made it up the
hill. Once we reached the dirt road it felt like we were driving on a newly
paved highway. After that 2-hour delay of Berlin road we ended up making it to
sugarloaf. We found a room at the Sugarloaf Resort Hotel right on the mountain
thanks to Bobby’s dad’s credit card. And survived our journey through berlin
road.
As for this
weeks Movie, My recommendation is live free of die-hard. This is a great action
movie. Bruce Willis plays the Ultimate badass who saves the country in Bruce
Willis Fashion. I do not want to give away too much about the movie but I would
give it 4 stars out of five. Let me know what you think of the movie.
I think you are going to want to think about reformatting your posts a bit. This is pretty difficult to read.
